Renewal of Fairtrade Status for Oldham

Posted on October 8, 2013 by admin in News - No Comments

we are very pleased to be able to share with readers part of a  letter from the Community Campaigns Manager from the Fairtrade Foundation on our Fairtrade Status.

Congratulations to Fairtarde in Oldham  for successfully renewing Fairtrade Borough status for Oldham. Please find enclosed your new Fairtrade Borough renewal certificate (displayed in Oldham Civic Centre)

It has been a huge pleasure to learn of all that has happened since you were awarded Fairtrade status and please pass on our congratulations and thanks to everyone who has put so much time, energy and creativity into making Fairtrade a part of the area. It’s clear from your renewal form that Fairtrade in Oldham has been going from strength to strength and it was a delight to read of your wonderfully committed and creative steering group. Thank you also for sending all those newspaper clippings – what an impressive evidence of your accomplishments! You have really managed to put Fairtrade on the agenda for Oldham Borough and it is impressive to see how you continue to keep it visible, not alone in the media but also by securing Fairtrade signs and recruiting Groundwork Oldham and Rochdale as a flagship employer. Such accomplishments can really help to increase awareness in your area. We were also very impressed with your amazing webpage; it is not only very beautiful but also very user friendly. We have no doubt that using social media can be an excellent tool, especially when reaching out to schools. We include our social media guide for inspiration should you want to venture into using for instance Facebook or twitter in the future. Similarly, we want to congratulate you for the Silver Award and for securing Fairtrade bananas in all primary and SEN schools – what an impressive achievement! Likewise is the liaison with the Food for Life Scheme brilliant since it offers so many possibilities for inspiration and widening your network.

Your list of faith groups and schools(as on websire) already committed and involved is very impressive and looking to the future it is obviously interesting that you are planning to increase your schools outreach work. It will be wonderful to see what your dedicated and enthusiastic group come up with and we will be looking forward to reading about it in two years time for your next status renewal – if not before.

Get on board with Fairtrade

What are you going to do to contribute to a fairer Borough and a fairer world? We need supporters to encourage restaurants and cafes to use Fairtrade products; we need students to encourage their schools and colleges to work for Fairtrade status; we need workers to encourage their employers to use Fairtrade products. PLEASE CAN YOU HELP?
